2CR Christmas Walk - Wareham

On Friday 12th December, the 2CR FM Christmas Walk hit town. 2CR Thunder Team member Jay is pictured interviewing the Mayor, Cllr Malcolm Russell, in North Street. Jay had just walked from Swanage, his day starting at 6.00am for a very good cause. Many local people came along and donated cash and toys to the 2CR Help a Local Child appeal, and even drivers passing the Black Thunder vehicle were handing out notes as they waited at the traffic lights. Donated money and toys will help disadvantaged children in Dorset and the New Forest and so will definitely be put to good use in the community and surrounding areas. Well done 2CR FM!

Bench Refurbishment - North Street

A recent audit of street furniture indicated that the two benches outside Barclays Bank in North Street were a Town Council responsibility and urgent steps have now been taken to replace two missing slats. The benches will be re-varnished to look even better and will help to provide useful extra seating for people waiting for buses further along the road.

PACT Presentation

PC Moira Connolly, PCSO Sam Shewbridge and Mr Nick Caddy, of the Partners and Communities Together (PACT) team, came along to the Town Council meeting on 3rd December. Councillors heard how a conjoined approach under the themes of 'Access', 'Influence', 'Intervention' and 'Answers' was helping to solve many problems in the community, including problems of anti-social behaviour. Three monthly meetings, involving many local community organisations and including young people, were helping to build a better community and the Wareham Safer Neighbourhood Team under Moira as 'Beat Manager' was playing an essential part in this process. Engagement with the community is the key - talking to people can work wonders! It is hoped that PACT will come along and give another presentation in 2009.
Volunteer of the Year 2008

Many congratulations to Roy and Nancy Anderson of Bonnets Lane, Wareham on being selected as worthy winners of the Town Council's Volunteer of the Year award for 2008. The award was presented at the Christmas Reception on 17th December in the Corn Exchange and represented the thanks of the local community for many years of voluntary work in the town, often behind the scenes.

Mistover Road Play Area - Update

Following a successful public consultation with the local community in Carey in October 2008 by the Town Council - in which the need for a roundabout for the disabled was identified - the Town Council was delighted to hear that the Viridor landfill tax credits scheme will fund the difference in addition to funding the original scheme, and a 10% contribution from the Purbeck District Council small grants board has also been gratefully secured. The work, delayed for four months, will now commence in mid-January and open some six weeks later, giving Carey a fully upgraded play area with the accent on the younger age group and toddlers. Many thanks to all who contributed to the public consultation.
